Surrendering
a Pet
S.P.O.T. recognizes how emotional and stressful it can be when surrendering your cat or dog. Our fosters are dedicated and patient and will care for your pet as if it were their own. While in foster care, a placement profile is developed to help find the best new home for the pet.
Steps to Surrender Your Pet
Complete the surrender form that is available at the bottom of this page. Contact information is especially important; accuracy is critical.
Surrendered pets are accepted based on available foster space. Health, advanced age, and behavior issues are evaluated but do not preclude acceptance. Pets remain in our care until adopted or placed in a sanctuary home.
S.P.O.T. will respond to a surrender application with additional questions and/or request for pictures. Initial responses may be by email, a text message, or a phone call.
Upon the surrender of your pet, S.P.O.T. is always grateful for a monetary donation to assist with care expenses. However, a donation is not required to surrender a pet to S.P.O.T.
When a dog is surrendered to us, we ask for vet records, including, if applicable, vaccination history, a rabies certificate, and verification of a spay. Additionally, providing a three-to-four day supply of the dog's regular food, clearly labeled with both the brand and protein source, is very helpful.

If S.P.O.T. does not have foster availability for your pet, below is a link to other resources.
